Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic School is a K-8 Catholic school located in Apex. We are currently accepting resumes for a full-time Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction. The position serves as a key member of the executive administrative team, working collaboratively with the Principal to fulfill the school's mission. 

The Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction has a complete understanding of the school philosophy and is committed to supporting and implementing the vision of the school by fostering strong relationships and leadership; thereby assisting the Church and school in the mission of evangelizing. As a school leader, the Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction strives to imitate Christ, in servant-leadership, seeking the will of the Father.

The Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction serves as a member of the administrative team to develop and implement the total school program.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervision: Supervises those assigned by Principal
  • Planning the School Program: assists in the development and establishing of the school goals and objectives and the planning of the schools’ instructional program.
  • Implementing the School Program: assists to provide direction to faculty in implementing goals and objectives and interacts and meets with faculty to assist in their development.
  • Evaluation and Remediation of the School Program: assists in the evaluation of the school program and of faculty and assists to initiate needed improvements.
  • Involving the Staff in Budget Allocations: involves the faculty in setting budget priorities.
  • Keeping Professionally Competent: acts to upgrade one's professional knowledge and skills.
  • Coordinating Budgets and Master Schedule: assists in the preparation and management of budgets and schedules.
  • Handling Disciplinary Procedures: assists to define and disseminate information about school disciplinary policies and procedures to parents, students, faculty, and community. 
  • Coordinating and Communicating the Schools Formal Structure: communicates and carries out established policies, delegates and accepts responsibility for completion of tasks and communicates program goals, objectives, and policies to the community. 
  • Facilitating Organizational Efficiency: promotes and maintains open communications, positive student attitudes, respects dignity, worth of staff, students, and complies with established lines of authority. 
  • Assisting in Record Keeping: assists in completion of records and reports and in the supervision and inventory of necessary supplies, textbooks, equipment and materials.

Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction Duties and Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Development
  • Program Development
  • Teacher Licensure: work with all faculty to ensure licensure requirements are met; work with Diocesan Catholic Schools Office to coordinate licensure updates and Beginning Teacher Packets; work with Instructional Teaching Coach to assign mentors to all new teachers, as well as oversee completion of all paperwork for mentors/mentees.
  • Book ordering/Inventory: Coordinate all textbook and materials needs with Business Service Manager to ensure all classrooms have materials on the first day of classes; track inventory of all textbooks and supplemental materials from year to year;
  • Standardized Testing: Coordinate and oversee standardized testing, including review of results, reporting scores to parents, data collection, accommodations, and data analysis with classroom teachers; 
  • Report Cards: Review report cards each nine weeks for grades and comments.
  • Professional Development: Teacher Professional Development and CEUs; organize and lead teachers in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)/Instructional Teams.
  • Observations: Teacher Observations/Classroom walk throughs.
  • Federal Programming: Be the liaison with public schools for special education services, as well as state and federal programs.
  • Substitutes: Recruit, oversee, arrange/schedule, and evaluate substitute teachers.
  • Safe Environment: Oversees Safe Environment Training and CPR Training.
  • Field Trips: Coordinate and approve all field trips.
  • Handbooks: Work with Administration on Student and Family, as well as Faculty Handbook revisions.

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from an accredited college or university or working towards the completion of an accredited leadership program. 
  • Valid North Carolina teaching certification with a minimum of five (5) years teaching experience, with Catholic school experience preferred. 
  • Valid Administrative certification or must be in the process of working towards completion of an administrative certification.

Position Title: Liturgical Music Minister for St. Mary Magdalene School

Parish or School Name: Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic School

Hours: 4 to 5 hours per week 
(1.5-2.0) Thursday for School Mass
(2.5- 3.5) Choosing music, practicing music and coordinating with school staff
 

Compensation: To be determined

The Liturgical Music Minister for the School Mass will demonstrate a love of Christ, knowledge and respect for worship, and exhibit outstanding leadership qualities.  They will be an active worship leader and encourage and teach students how to become worship leaders.  They will interface with the school staff to integrate liturgical music into other areas as needed for faith development. 

Responsibilities:

1.  Plan and prepare music for the School Mass and also be responsible for preparing music for various religious seasonal and school events such as those during Advent, Lent, May Crowning, Graduation etc.

2.  Work in cooperation with the school staff to have more students participate in Music Ministry:

a.  For example (but not limited to):  during Mass a group of instrumentalists could play once a month, the chorus could sing once a month, students could be trained as cantors, liturgical dance to sacred music could be done during the Preparation of the Gifts, classes could sing at Mass during communion, etc.

b.  Liturgical Music Minister for the school could provide music for special in-school class retreats, class reflections, etc. which may involve students participating in Music Ministry.

3.  Work with the students responsible for operating the sound system

4.  Generate worship aids when needed such as song sheets or programs

5.  Purchase and maintain license for copyright purposes

6.  Work with the Director of Music for St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church when needed

7.  Make arrangements for substitute musicians, prepare music for the substitutes and arrange for compensation

8.  Coordinate with the school Music Teachers to help the students learn the music that will be sung/played at the School Mass

9.  Monitor budget/expenses for music for the school Mass and other music as needed by the faculty for faith-related class activities.
